- you have deleted document files and emptied the Recycle Bin
- you formatted your hard drive or its partition
- you have deleted a hard drive partition
- the file system was corrupted for some reason
The document preview feature allows you to make sure that exactly the documents you need will
be recovered. If you can view a document in the preview window, this document is guaranteed to be
recovered. You must have the Microsoft Office suite installed in order to preview recovered
Word and Excel files and other recovered Microsoft Office documents.
Sometimes document files are recovered partially or corrupted. Such documents cannot be viewed
with the help of the preview feature and cannot be opened in the application they were created in.
It means that a corrupted Word document cannot be opened with MS Word, a damaged Excel document
cannot be opened with MS Excel, etc. You can use

Recovering office documents with the FileInternals Office Recovery.
- Download FileInternals Office Recovery
and install it on your computer.
- To start FileInternals Office Recovery, click "Start"->"FileInternals Office Recovery
"->"FileInternals Office Recovery" or double-click the FileInternals Office Recovery shortcut on
the desktop. You will see the main window of the program.
- Click the "Find and recover lost documents" button on the toolbar or select the "File"->"Find
and recover lost documents" menu item. You will see the "Recovery Wizard" window.
- Select the hard drive or partition where your documents were stored and click the "Next" button.
- Specify the types of documents you want to recover and click the "Next" button.
- FileInternals Office Recovery will start scanning the selected hard drive (partition).
Wait till the scanning process is over and click the "Finish" button or click the "Cancel" button
to cancel scanning. Important: scanning may take quite a while, up to several hours. The time of scanning
depends on the size of the drive and on the performance of your computer.
- After the scanning process is over, Office Recovery will show the list of all found documents.
You can also view documents of each type in a separate list. If you can preview a document, this document is
guaranteed to be recovered.
- Now you can save the recovered documents to the disk. Select the documents you want to save. Use the
"Documents" menu to select some documents or clear the selection. Click the "Save recovered documents"
button and specify the folder you want to save the recovered documents to.
It is impossible to save recovered
documents in the unregistered version of the program. To unlock this feature, you must purchase a license and
activate your copy of the program.
